IT Manager III: Unseen Forces is a free, web-based, IT simulation game from Intel. In it the player manages a company's IT department.
There are two aspects to the game. Firstly, the player must ensure that everybody’s desktop PCs, laptops and servers keep running smoothly. There are dozens of different software and hardware faults to tackle. Sometimes these are easy to repair; sometimes they are not.
As the company grows, it places increasing demands on IT, and the player must ensure that the technologies are in place to take the strain. This is where the second strategic aspect of the game comes in. Applying technologies helps to improve productivity and security, reduce costs and enhance efficiency.
The game is broken down into eight levels. Each represents a bigger office than the last. Not only does each level feature a bigger office with more employees, the IT issues that arise also become more challenging. The idea is that, by improving productivity whilst maintaining a good working environment, the company’s share price goes up. When it hits its target value, the level is complete.
IT Manager 3 was shortlisted for the NMA effectiveness awards in 2009.[1]
